Time | Tiempo: 6 PM - 8:30 PM
Location | Ubicación: Seeds of Solidarity Farm 8484 Lake Forest Dr, Sacramento CA
Join us for our second gathering of Cempasúchiles for the Movement, a community harvest and ceremony celebrating cempasúchil, Día de los Muertos, and our relationships to land, memory, and one another.
Together, we will harvest the cempasúchil that our community planted and tended earlier this year at Seeds of Solidarity Urban Farm. Cempasúchil has long held an important place in Día de los Muertos traditions. Its vibrant color and scent are used to honor our ancestors, welcome their memory, and create pathways between generations. As we harvest, we will reflect on what it means to grow these flowers collectively and to reclaim relationships to land, cultural traditions, and community.
We will also create a community altar/ofrenda where everyone is invited to honor loved ones, ancestors, and those whose lives and memories we carry with us. Please feel welcome to bring photographs, flowers, written messages, or other meaningful items to contribute to the altar.
The gathering will include live music by Cascabel de Dos Ríos, along with pan dulce and warm atole to share as a community.
We are especially grateful to the UC Davis Student Farm for generously offering additional cempasúchil flowers for our community. Their contribution will help us make flowers available to more families and community members for Día de los Muertos.
This gathering is about more than harvesting flowers. It is an opportunity to remember that growing, harvesting, sharing food and flowers, honoring our ancestors, and gathering together can help us rebuild relationships to land and to each other. We invite you to come spend time with us, contribute to the community altar, listen to music, share stories, and take cempasúchil home to honor those you love.
